  Hybrid Power System

  06-Apr-2009
  Emerson and Likusasa have had a longstanding business relationship in Africa, and have joined forces once again – this time on the Hybrid Power System project in Zambia,for MTN.

The Hybrid Power System is based on an IP55 DC power and battery enclosure, designed to provide a weather and climate controlled environment, as well as a vandal protected environment. The DC enclosure houses the Netsure 701 DC plant for medium sized power applications, and utilises OPzV batteries for the cyclic performance in the battery enclosure.

Benefits of the Hybrid Power System:
OPEX savings - Diesel consumption and maintenance visits are reduced by 50% due to
   the overall reduction in running time;
Improved efficiency - Diesel generator sets perform at optimal loading due to the additional capacity required for battery recharge, thereby reducing common low load operation glazing problems typically experienced on conventional sites. This eliminates the need for dummy loads to be fitted to the set and reduces unnecessary diesel consumption;
Increased life expectancy - Running hours on diesel generators are reduced, prolonging the units’ expected lifetime;
Security - The network power enclosure provides excellent protection against corrosion, dust, vandalism and intrusion;
Compact, small footprint and low weight for easy deployment – The manageable size and weight of the complete solution allows for easy transport to sites with limited access
Ease of installation - The units are fully factory assembled, tested and documented before being shipped and delivered to the sites, ensuring consistent, high quality levels and shorter installation times on sites.
